A group of villagers from Dean rolled up their sleeves for a litter-pick before the official unveiling of its Queen’s Canopy trees.
Organisers said there was a great response to the clean-up, which happened recently and the Queen’s Canopy.
Baroness Hayman of Ullock performed the ceremony of the canopy on the green opposite the village church gates.
Tree guards have been made by craftsman Alan Dawson, of Branthwaite, to protect the saplings.
A spokesman said: “There was also a superb selection of cakes and refreshments in Kirkstile Village Hall Dean which were baked and donated by local
parishioners and enjoyed by all those present. Other volunteers gave up their time to put in a new path from the car park to the school replacing to
old one which had become a muddy mess, what a great community we live in.”
