There will be three new faces in the Cumbria county squad for the new season – including a promising home-based player.

One of the club’s priorities for the winter was to find two new seamers to increase the bowling options and they have been successfully recruited.

George Burrows, 24, a fast bowler born in Wigan and Ed Moulton, 23, a medium fast bowler born in Preston have joined the squad along with Freddie Fallows, 19, a slow left arm spinner and left-hand bat born in Barrow.

Burrows made his first-class debut for Lancashire in the 2020 coronavirus curtailed season remaining on Lancashire County’s books until being released at the end of the 2021 season. He subsequently picked up a short-term contract with Sussex at the start of the 2022 season playing in the County Championship.

He has played in four first class matches, taking five wickets with best bowling figures of 2 for 20.

His club cricket has been played in the Liverpool competition with Orrell Red Triangle, Wigan and since 2019 with Formby.

Moulton also made his first-class debut for Lancashire in the 2020 season, again being released at the end of the 2021 season prior to which he had also played for Derbyshire in the County Championship whilst out on loan.

He has played in three first class matches taking three wickets with best bowling figures of 2 for 24. He attended Myerscough College and has played all his club cricket for Chorley in the Northern Premier.

Fallows is currently playing his cricket for Durham UCCE and has played in the pre-season friendlies against first class opposition (but which are no longer considered first class matches).

Attending Bromsgrove School he played his age-group cricket for Worcestershire then Leicestershire before progressing to Leicestershire 2nds in 2022. This season he will play for Kendal.

County skipper Michael Slack said: “Last year we had a decent year reaching the one-day final and aim to go one better this year. There are areas to improve on and we are looking forward to getting going.”

Cumbria’s opening fixture is on Sunday, April 16 against Staffordshire at Moddershall and Oulton Cricket Club where they will play two T20 Blast matches.

In other squad news Paul Hindmarch and James McGown, who both featured in Cumbria’s one day matches last season, are no longer available due to work commitments.

Other players who played for the county in 2022 are likely to feature in either the three-day championship and/or as part of the development squad.
