Station Road Club put their L&L Property Contractors Snooker League Division Two second-placed finish behind them as they claimed the Division’s top 4 play-off title.
They clinched the title with a 3-1 victory over league champions Flimby Social.
In the first frame some early nerves from both players saw a couple of opportunities go awry before Flimby’s Division Two leading player Kevin Kirkham grabbed the initiative and with a contribution of 26 he led by 40.
This definitely had Station Road Club’s Mark Robertson on the back foot and even though he cut a determined figure he could not stop Kirkham accumulating the points he required, as the Flimby cueist went on to win 55-21 to put his side 1-0 up.
An early miscalculation from Richard Kirkham gave away a five-point foul and even though the penalty points didn’t make much difference to the scores the balls seemed to run awkwardly for the Flimby cueist from that point on.
Tom Thompson took full advantage of this and with some confident potting the Station Road player built up a decent 30 point mid frame lead.
Kirkham, not being a player to give in easily, dug in but with another in-off soon after the initiative swung back towards Thompson and with the Station Road cueist quickly potting the balls he required he went on to a 64-16 victory.
At 1-1 frame three saw Mike Walker get into his stride quickly and in putting together a lead of 35 a Station Road Club victory looked likely.
However Flimby’s Sal Cakmak battled back and with the last five colours remaining the scores were level. Walker took the green but in leaving a pot on the brown Cakmak looked the likely winner.
A pot to the middle seemed straightforward enough but in over-cutting it the chance was gone and Walker eventually potted the balls he required to win 57-39.
Leading 2-1 Station Road Club’s Chris Hunter had the job of trying to convert the match win but with the in-form Michael ‘Sid’ Walker in his way it was no easy task.
The frame started with some excellent potting from both players but with Walker slowly building a lead a decider looked a real possibility.
Back came Hunter and with the just the green remaining the frame was in the balance. A good pot on the green didn’t look to be leading to much but as Hunter followed it up with brown, blue and pink the frame, match and title was in the hands of a delighted Station Road Club team.
