
Cockermouth made a winning start to the season as they played their first game of the Cumberland ARL season at Lowca.
It finished 28-22 after the Titans had led 20-10 at half-time and Lowca had staged a spirited fightback.
Cockermouth had gone in front on eight minutes with an unconverted try by Ryan Scott but the lead lasted only three minutes.
Mullen Robinson levelled the scores with a try for Lowca and Keith Campbell’s conversion edged the hosts in front.
Cockermouth hit back with two tries inside seven minutes from Oliver Anderton (19) and man of the match Shane Cusack (26). Scott converted the first.
Lowca pegged back four points on 34 minutes with a try by Josh Partridge but Cockermouth had the last word in the half three minutes from the break when Cusack scored his second.
It stayed that way through the third quarter of the game but on 61 minutes Mitchell Todd got over for Lowca.

The response was immediate as three minutes later Scott got over for a try and then converted it.
Again Lowca came back with an unconverted try from Emerson Allen but Scott settled Cockermouth nerves with a penalty goal.
Lowca did respond with a try from Ashton Briscoe but with 78 minutes on the clock it was too little too late.

The town derby between Maryport and Glasson was a cracker as expected with only five points between them at the end.
Glasson had gone into a 10-0 lead, were just in front 17-16 at half-time but it was Maryport who came through to win 32-27.
Josh Patterson (2), Luke Cremmins, Craig Foster, Rob Ferguson and Luke Baker scored the Maryport tries with Patterson landing four conversions.
Glasson responded with tries from their man of the match Shane Williams (2), Ben Humm, Luke Johnson and Richard Stamper. Luke Johnson kicked three goals and also put over a drop goal.Scott Atherton was Maryport’s man of the match.
