Workington Comets rider Luke Harrison gets a run-out for Mildenhall Fen Tigers today in the first leg of their KO Cup semi-final at Kent Royals.
Harrison, who isn’t 16 until June, comes in to guest for Lee Complin after impressing when he rode for the club late last season.
The teams met at West Row last Sunday in a league match, which the Fen Tigers won 53-37, but they are without skipper Complin due to his senior commitment for Glasgow.
Harrison made a small number of late season guest appearances for the Fen Tigers, figuring prominently especially in the play-off semi-finals against Berwick where he raced to a heat win in his very first race at this level, coming from third place to overcome the home pair.
Following on from that he sensationally went on to record a full 12 point maximum in the return leg.
The youngster who has many previous appearances at the old Northside track is a former Wolverhampton mascot and despite his young age has lots of experience both at home and across Europe with Neil Vatchers British Youth Squad, including an appearance in the 2022 SGP3 Final, the World Individual Championship for under 16’s held in Wroclaw, Poland, where he scored a creditable 6 points alongside the world’s best at that level.
He has also been 125cc British Champion in 2019, 250cc British Champion in 2020, 2021 as well as his current title in 2022.
His new Workington team-mate Ace Pijper will be riding today for Edinburgh in their return derby clash with Glasgow after scoring a point on Friday in the Monarchs home win over the Tigers.
Workington don’t start their first campaign in the National Development League until May but will have noted champions Leicester making a winning start to their title defence on Saturday.
They were pushed all the way by Berwick at the Pidcock Motorcycles Arena, Beaumont Park before the Lion Cubs came away with a 47-42 win over a patched-up Bullets side who had three of their regular riders missing after incidents at Belle Vue on Friday.
