Workington Comets’ 15-year-old starlet Luke Harrison helped Mildenhall to a 46-44 win at Kent Royals yesterday.
Harrison, riding as a guest heat leader, scored eight points which included two heat wins.
He was third in a couple while he was excluded after a fall in his fourth outing.
Harrison was chosen for the final heat of the meeting where his third place helped the Fen Tigers to a 4-2 and the narrow victory.
Former Kent star Alfie Bowtell returned to Iwade with a 15-point maximum as he and Harrison combined for the match-winning 4-2. Bowtell, who was a high scorer for the Royals until he was injured last year, reeled off five wins.
The meeting was the first leg of their KO Cup semi-final and the tie is scheduled to be completed with the second leg at West Row this Sunday (April 16).
Meanwhile Harrison’s new Workington team-mate Ace Pijper scored a point for Glasgow Tigers in their 51-39 win over Edinburgh Monarchs at Ashfield.
It meant that Glasgow took both match and aggregate points after overcoming their Scottish rivals in a feisty BSN Series encounter.
The Monarchs were competitive throughout and were only four points down after Heat 8, but back-to-back maximums for the home side put them in charge of the contest.
Chris Harris top-scored for the Tigers with 12+1 and Claus Vissing also marked his return to Ashfield with double figures as he collected ten.
The visitors were well served by their top two as west Cumbrian rider and former Tiger Craig Cook scored 12+1 and skipper Josh Pickering 11+1, but they lacked strength in the lower order.
Workington-based former Comet Kyle Bickley was beaten by Pijper in the reserve race but earned a point in his third outing.
