Workington will open the cricket season on Sunday with a home game in the ECB National Cup competition.
They host Cherry Tree from Blackburn, a team who play in the Ribblesdale League.
There’s a bonus for the West Cumbrians as their overseas amateur for 2023, Davis Mills has arrived in the town.
Skipper Matthew Lowden said: “Davis arrived with his wife after a 33-hour flight from New Zealand and is looking forward to getting started.
“He comes here with a very good record as a coach which is what we hope will really benefit the club. We plan to get him into local schools as well as working with seniors and juniors at the club.
“It hasn’t been the best of weather to prepare the ground but we hope that things will improve before the weekend.”
Workington have a strong team selected for the game and are looking for the win which would take them to St Anne’s in the next round.
“St Anne’s is where Freddie Flintoff started off and is a very nice ground so we regard this as a bit of incentive to win on Sunday,” said Lowden.
“We have Dan McDermott back playing this season, which is a bonus because he is a very useful bowler for us.
“Kristian Moffat didn’t play a lot last season but has declared himself available for the while season this time which is a big bonus,” the skipper added.
