Two Carlisle people have been nominated for prestigious accolades in the national Man v Fat Football Awards.
Beverley Young and Dan McAulay have been shortlisted for their dedication, hard work and innovative contributions to the Carlisle Man v Fat Football club.
The Man v Fat Awards, taking place in Manchester next month, recognise the accomplishments of individuals who have made a substantial difference in the health and wellbeing of others. The shortlists have been collated following nominations from fellow teammates and coaches right across the UK.
Beverley, owner of fitness and wellbeing businesses B Young and Healthy, has won the Regional Coach of the Year and has been shortlisted in the National Coach of the Year category. Beverley is a personal trainer, fitness instructor and wellbeing advisor for employers, as well as running the Carlisle Man v Fat Football club.
Dan McAulay, founder of Dan McAulay Marketing, has also been nominated for the Media Mogul award. He has promoted the Carlisle Man v Fat club, raising awareness locally but it has also gained national prominence for their innovative and creative style.
Over 5,000 entries were received for this year’s categories.
Beverley said: “I am absolutely gobsmacked and honoured to have been chosen as the Northern Coach of the Year, as well as being in the running for National Coach of the Year. There are three other totally worthy nominees and I am so happy at just being nominated!
“I am so grateful for the support from fellow coaches, our fantastic regional team – Elle and Tom – and of course, my amazing team in Carlisle!”
Dan added: “I’m genuinely over the moon to be nominated for the national awards! I’m really grateful to my teammates, coach Beverley, and everyone who took the time out to nominate me. Each week, I’ve enjoyed getting creative and doing videos for our small-but-mighty Carlisle club, celebrating top weight-loss scorers and the goal of the week.”
Across the country, the FA-affiliated Man v Fat program has over 8,500 participants in over 170 clubs. The initiative targets men who are overweight or obese, with a BMI greater than 27.5. The Carlisle club provides a supportive and friendly environment for men to lose weight and improve their overall health and wellbeing, with over 1000 lbs lost so far.
