Five members of a fishing boat crew had to be rescued after they got into distress on the Irish Sea.
Barrow’s RNLI volunteer crew were called out after the vessel sent out a mayday alert.
The crew were called at around 9.50pm on Sunday and launched all-weather lifeboat the Grace Dixon to go to the aid of the boat, which was 30 miles west of Barrow.
Under the command of coxswain Shaun Charnley, assisted by a crew of six, the Grace Dixon arrived at 11.15pm.
The lifeboat from Douglas in the Isle of Man had also been requested to attend along with the Coastguard helicopter.
A nearby vessel, Fairline Surveyor, managed to take the five crew members off the casualty vessel to ensure they were safe.
A sister vessel to the affected fishing boat had also sailed from Fleetwood to go and assist. The Barrow and Douglas lifeboats assessed the condition of the casualties, and it was agreed that it could tow the boat back to Fleetwood.
The Barrow lifeboat then transferred the rescued crew members from the Fairline Surveyor and at 1,57, they were in turn transferred to the sister vessel.
The Barrow lifeboat was stood down shortly after 2am and it returned to the Roa Island Boathouse at 3.20am where it was rehoused by the waiting shore crew and washed down in preparation for the next launch.
