Penrith chairman Billy Williams has expressed his delight at the club securing Northern League Division One status again.
A 2-0 home win over Heaton Stannington made sure that the Bonny Blues would not be going down, and could enjoy their final game of the season on Saturday.
“We entertain the new champions Newton Aycliffe so that will be a nice one to finish with, knowing we are not desperate for the points,” said Williams.
Penrith had gone into the game needing a point to be sure of staying up and were on course after a goal-less first-half.
Then the nervousness evaporated as goals from Ben Davidson and Alfie Brunskill gave Penrith the win.
“Our manager Darren Edmondson has achieved what I asked of him at the start of the season – retain our Division One status and bring on some younger players.
“It was important to stay in Division One because of what we are planning at Frenchfield next season. A new artificial pitch is going to give us a different business module going forward and it is an exciting venture for the club.
“We will know, hopefully, later this week just when work can start and the timescale involved. We can’t wait,” said Williams.
