Two Furness College sports students are fundraising for the trip of a lifetime to Sri Lanka.

Cricketers Dec Tyson and Jenny Fallows, who are both studying the extended diploma in sport and physical activity at the Channelside campus, have been selected for the trip by Cumbria Cricket Ltd.

The teenagers are part of a 28-strong team of under-18s making the trip to Asia in spring next year.

Dec, who is a former Millom School pupil, said it was an amazing opportunity to play cricket abroad to perfect his bowling action.

“I’m a spin bowler so it’s perfect conditions,” he said. “I’m eager to learn about the culture and how people live. I’m also looking forward to playing in one of the most historic ground where Sri Lanka’s main first team plays.”

Jenny , who has been playing cricket since she was 10, said she was delighted to be selected for the tour, which will help raise the profile of the standard of cricket in Cumbria.

She said: “I’ve never played cricket abroad and it will be good to see the standard we are compared to people around the world. The social side of things will be particularly good too, getting to spend two weeks straight with new people.”

They each have to raise £2,700 towards the trip.
