The volunteer crew of Maryport Rescue have paid a moving tribute to ‘one of their own’ after his body was found in the Ennerdale area on Sunday.
Neil Marland, of Maryport, had been a volunteer with the group for around two years.
In a tribute on Facebook, Maryport Rescue said: “With heavy hearts, the team have been informed of the passing of one of our own.
“Over the past couple of years, Neil has been a keen volunteer of Maryport Rescue and has been involved in a multitude of ways, from being part of the active team, supporting and driving fundraising activities along with maintenance and everything in between.
“He was instrumental in being a key part of the organisation and helped promote its existence through more ways than one.
“Our condolences, thoughts and well wishes are with those of Neil’s families, he will be dearly missed by many.
“Stand down Neil, your duty is done. Fair winds and following seas.”
