Staff from leading law firm Muckle LLP are strapping on their walking boots next month to take on the Lakes 3000 challenge and raise money for two Cumbrian charities.
The firm has currently raised £4,500 and is hoping to more than double that with the help of generous sponsors.
On May 19, a team from Muckle will be climbing the peaks of Scafell, Scafell Pike, Helvellyn and Skiddaw (an ascent of over 1,2542ft) in under 24 hours to raise money for Carlisle Youth Zone and Jigsaw, Cumbria’s Children’s Hospice.
Carlisle Youth Zone provides a safe meeting place for young people, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds, where they can participate in a wide range of positive activities.
Emma Rogerson, senior development co-ordinator for the charity, said: “Around 1,200 young people access the facility each week, engaging in a wide variety of activities and mentoring.
“Corporate support from businesses like Muckle is a lifeline to the charity and ensures that we can continue to operate and be the place that hundreds and hundreds of children and young people turn to for guidance, help and to find someone who’ll listen and care about them.”
Jigsaw, Cumbria’s Children’s Hospice, provides unique care and support to children and young adults with life-limiting illnesses.
Martha Pardoe, fundraiser, said: “We’re so grateful for the support of Muckle LLP and wish them all the best with their fantastic charity challenge next month, we’re sure they will do brilliantly! The support Jigsaw, Cumbria’s only children’s hospice, gets from local businesses right across the county, like Muckle, is vital in helping us raise the funds we need to continue caring for local children and young people with life limiting illnesses along with supporting their families.”
Hugh Welch, senior partner at Muckle said: “The team were keen to do something collectively to raise money for charities in Cumbria and this seemed like the ultimate challenge.
“All of us are extremely excited for the challenge and, more importantly, excited at the prospect of raising much needed funds for Carlisle Youth Zone and Jigsaw.”
