A new chair has been appointed for the Lake District Calvert Trust.

Martin Mullin takes over the role from Giles Mounsey-Heysham, who has served as chair of trustees since 2013.

After completing an undergraduate and postgraduate engineering education, Martin spent most of his career working for an American multi-national.

He was president of a $500m division with business predominantly in Europe and the Middle East. Martin’s experience encompasses strategic planning, operations, financial performance management, relationship management and business development.

The Lake District Calvert Trust offers all-inclusive residential breaks help people with a range of disabilities experience the Lake District in a safe and supportive way, delivering a fun and fulfilling experience that makes a positive difference in their lives.

Martin, who has been a trustee of the Lake District Calvert Trust since 2016, said: “I feel very privileged to become chair of such a brilliant charity.

“The Lake District Calvert Trust owes a debt of gratitude to Giles who has been an outstanding chair.  I am looking forward to working with our trustees, management team and staff to build on his inspirational work.

“In an extremely challenging market, it is more important than ever to maximise our relevance and impact. We must continue to deliver for our beneficiaries while also introducing new evidence-based services and experiences.

“All our trustees share my passion to ensure those with the most profound disabilities continue to benefit from life-changing outdoor activities at the Lake District Calvert Trust.”

Giles said: “I have been with the Lake District Calvert Trust for 14 years, the last nine as chair, and it has been a great privilege.

“There have been so many highlights. Go Herdwick was an amazing project, working with sponsors and local artists to create a trail of life-sized model ewes and lambs scattered across 150 square miles of Cumbria towns and countryside.  It was also a huge achievement to open our brain injury rehabilitation centre, Reconnections.

“The COVID-19 pandemic was undoubtedly our most challenging period but at the same time it showed our people and our benefactors at their very best.”
