Two Cumbrian villages have celebrated the reopening of their shared playground.
Villagers from Oughterside and Prospect, near Aspatria, came together to mark the occasion at Pond Green, which has undergone a £47,000 transformation.
Ron Salmon, project manager, said: “The upgrade would never have happened if it was not for initial fundraising by a group of mothers from the two villages, informally led by Miner’s Arms landlady Diane Newell. Events were held in the village hall: raffles, afternoon teas and many more, with their efforts finally peaking at over £4,000.”
Grants from organisations including £10,000 from the National Lottery Community Fund, and donations from £5,000 to £1,000 from, CFM Radio Cash for Kids, Cumbria Community Foundation, Iggesund Paperboard Ltd, Allerdale council Sports Fund, Cumbria County Council’s Allerdale Local Committee, Hadfield Trust and Arnold Clark Community Fund.

Playdale Playgrounds, based in Haverthwaite, near Ulverston, installed the equipment and the playground was reopened by Jackie Mounsey, whose late son Richard was the inspiration for the project’s red play tractor.
Oughterside Foundation School children and teachers also joined in the celebrations.
