A man has appeared in court accused of defrauding five people — including his parents — allegedly by falsely using their personal details to obtain credit.
Gary Feeney, 54, faces 17 charges which each allege fraud by making a false representation to Capital One and the use of other people’s personal details in order to gain credit.
Five people, including Feeney’s parents — along with two other women and a man — are named in the charges.
Each allegation was put to him when he appeared in front of Judge Richard Archer at Carlisle Crown Court this morning. In response to each charge, Feeney stated: “Not guilty.”
When asked by Judge Archer for a summary of Feeney’s defence, his lawyer Charles Brown said: “That it was not him who used these details and obtained these items.”
Prosecutor Francis McEntee had earlier alleged to the court: “The deception in each case is falsely using the person’s details.”
The total value of the alleged fraud is said to total several thousand pounds.
Feeney, of Casson Road, Workington, was told his trial in front of a crown court jury is due to start on March 11 next year.
A hearing to assess trial readiness will take place before then. In the meantime, Feeney was granted bail and reminded to co-operate with his legal team in the preparation of a document setting out his defence to the allegations and any issues on which he relies.
