Velo Club Cumbria’s time trials reach Bassenthwaite

Velo Club Cumbria’s series of evening time trials continued on Tuesday with former professional Alistair Robinson winning the Circuit of Bassenthwaite time trial.

Robinson completed the rolling, scenic 16-mile course in excellent early season weather conditions in a time of 34 minutes and 9 seconds.

Robinson beat last year’s club champion Luke Johnston by 1 minute and 2 seconds while former champion David Gleave was third in a time of 36.22, ahead of Brian Payton in fourth.

The fastest road bike rider was Dean Newton in a fast time of 38.00.

Fastest female rider was again Rachael Maxwell in 45.07, just over 3 minutes clear of Sue Toppin.

VCC’s club time trials continue on Tuesday, May 16 with the Whinlatter Lorton Hill Climb. The sign-on is from 6pm at Strawberry How, Cockermouth.
