
Armed police were called to a West Cumbrian town after reports that a dog had mauled a person.
Officers notified staff at Cleator Moor’s Nisa store and petrol station to stay inside while they dealt with the incident, which happened today, May 9.
Around 15 people had to stay in the shop and garage.
Police closed the road near the Leconfield Industrial Estate while the incident was ongoing.
A Cumbria police spokesman said: “Police were contacted at 3.20pm by a woman who had been bitten by the dog she was walking in the vicinity of Leconfield Industrial Estate.
“The woman had suffered injuries to her hand, arm and face before getting into her own car for her own safety.
“Officers attended and located the dog nearby. Officers were able to safely secure the dog and put it on a leash. That was at around 4.05pm.
“The injured woman left the scene to attend hospital for her injuries to be checked over. The dog was taken to a local vets.”
