Whitehaven have appealed to their shareholders to get involved in the day-to-day running of the club.
The appeal has gone out as a result of a significant decrease in the number of board members over the last 12 months.
A club statement said: “With the recent resignation of Gary Eilbeck as an active board member, after many years of dedicated service, it has left us with limited people and time to run a semi-professional rugby league club.
“At the shareholders meeting in February, a request was made for any volunteers who could help the board to come forward. So far, we have had very little response.
“The board would like to firstly invite any shareholders who feel they can help the board carrying out different roles and tasks to support the day to day and weekly running of the club. More information will be given to anyone who expresses an interest.”
Whitehaven’s financial difficulties have been raised over the last six months with the club continually stressing they need at least 1,200 people through the turnstiles for home games – a figure they have not reached yet.
The club also caused eyebrows to be raised when they did not attend the major meeting to discuss the IMG grading proposals.
They said at the time they are fighting a daily battle to secure funds to support the club and allow it to continue.
“We felt our time and effort was better-placed in continuing to do so. Given we have a board comprising three people it was a decision we had to make as to where was the most appropriate place to give our time and effort to,” a statement said.
Whitehaven’s problems could not have come at a worse time as the Rugby League’s new partnership with IMG calls for consistent box-ticking to satisfy the grading system – one of which is regards to financial stability.
Any shareholders who are prepared to help have been invited to email admin@whitehavenrl.co.uk and a meeting will be arranged to discuss the options.
