An Eden pub forced to close due to a major fire will reopen next month.

A fire broke out at the George and Dragon at Clifton almost a year ago in the early hours and in June, owners the Askham Collection said it would be months before it reopened.

Now the Askham Collection, home to Askham Hall and The Queen’s Head at Askham, has announced that the George and Dragon, is set to reopen on June 5.

It has been fully refurbished, with new interiors throughout its bar, restaurant and bedrooms and it will also have a new menu.

Charles Lowther, owner of the George and Dragon, said: “We are excited to finally be reopening the George and Dragon.  The team has worked hard over the last year to restore and refurbish it.

“We were keen to keep all the things our guests loved about us before, but also use this as an opportunity to bring out a more thought-out style, embracing all that is great about our special area.

“We feel we’ve done that and can’t wait to welcome people back. We’ve really missed being part of the community and we’re excited to get back to it.”
