A Cumbrian cake maker has been shortlisted for a prestigious national award.

Ginger Bakers, based in Kendal, are finalists in the Free From Food Awards gifting category with their gluten free mixed tray bake box.

Being shortlisted is considered an achievement in itself and a strong accolade for any product and all entries are carefully scrutinised by an independent panel of judges who are all experts within their respective fields.

The awards have been celebrating free from food and drink for the 16 years.

Chief baker and owner Lisa Smith said the team was thrilled and excited to discover that they had been shortlisted in the gifted category.

Now Ginger Bakers have to wait until the winners’ medals are announced on June 8 at a glitzy awards ceremony being held at Royal College of Physicians in London to find out whether they will collect any plaudits.

The Cumbrian team are up against The Celebration Pie Company, Forest Feast, Chocolate Moments, Firetree, and Salcombe Dairy.

There are a total of 28 award categories across specialist areas including breakfast and morning goods, milk product alternatives, breads, cheese alternatives, keto, savoury snacking, confectionary, desserts and puddings, full prepared meals and gifting.
