Workington recorded a thumping win over Cleator when they both started the Cumbria League’s T20 tournament last night in the West group.
Playing on their own Valentine Ground, Workington rattled up 175-2 in their 20 overs and then bowled out Cleator for 78.
Overseas amateur Davis Mills was the star of the show for Workington, hitting an unbeaten 101 off only 61 deliveries. His innings included 14 fours and a six.
David Pearce made 35 not out as the pair featured in an unbroken third wicket stand of 111 in 12 overs. Sam Bates had earlier chipped in with 24.
The only Cleator wicket takers were Steven Lee (1-25) and Cameron Bell (1-28).
Faced with a near impossible task Cleator’s only real partnership was 33 for the second wicket between professional Abdul Muzammill (18) and Lee (13). As wickets tumbled at regular intervals the only other batsman in double figures was Jignesh Kaklotar (12).
Sam Holt and Kristian Moffat were the main wicket takers for Workington and both finished with 3-9.
The first game in the South group saw Lindal Moor host Haverigg and emerge as winners by five wickets.
Haverigg had elected to bat first and were in some trouble, losing half their side for 49 before Robbie Evans (29) and Lee Postlethwaite put on 51 for the sixth wicket.
Postlethwaite (37no) guided the tail to the end of the 20 overs when Sam Huddleston was dismissed off the final ball and they closed on 130.
Edward Waind was the most successful Lindal bowler, taking 4-25 with support from John Atkinson (2-11) and Aseem Wadhwa (2-16).
It turned into a man of the match performance from Waind as he opened and hit 52 off 54 deliveries, putting on 43 for the first wicket with Paul Wilcock (26).
Wadhwa hit 22 off 21 balls and when Waind was out Lindal were almost there on 125-5. Freddie Scrogham hit a four off the first ball of the final over to see his side over the line.
Lee Postlethwaite was the leading Haverigg bowler with 2-21.
