Steve Cram launches The Wild Goat Festival on the Holker Estate

Steve Cram and Paula Radcliffe are among the sporting stars attending a new Lake District festival this summer.

The Wild Goat Festival, a family event that blends trail running, gravel cycling, camping and music take place from August 11 to 13 at Holker Hall.

Organisers say it is a unique festival which promises a captivating experience for active families, featuring GOAT – greatest of all time – athletes, immersive sporting sessions, and adventures on the trails around the hall.

The line-up also includes Chris Thompson, Non Stanford, Steve Backley and Frances Quinn plus athletes running workshops and active classes including Markus Stitz, Karen Pickering, Gemma Hillier-Moses and many more.

Sessions including social runs between 2.5k and 30k and/or 25k and 40k trail gravel rides, King/Queen of the Hill, yoga for runners with Becky Lyne and wild athletics, morning Pilates plus bums and tums strength and conditioning with Gemma Hillier-Moses and families on track with Radcliffe.

The weekend also includes a full schedule of educational and informative talks covering topics such as mountain rescue, endurance nutrition, bike mechanic workshops and fireside chats with GOATs.

Radcliffe will run family relays on track, sponsors Cumbria Wildlife Trust will host children’s outdoor skills and crafts plus Hope Academy will offer sessions in the Kid’s Cyclo Cross Skills Centre.

There are also opportunities for families to take part in orienteering, attempt the climbing and activity wall and dance throughout the evening to musicians from the local area. The evening’s music will be delivered by DJ Miss Maverick, South Lakes Rock School, Brother Rabbit and Indigo Youth.

Cram said: “We are excited to announce a packed schedule for the Wild Goat Festival. For our first outing, we have curated a full weekend of inspiration and action that welcomes families who love to explore new trails on foot or bike or want to hear from the GOATs themselves – we’ve organised some local bands for an evening of music, craft workshops, health and wellbeing talks and it’s all aimed to create an environment that fosters connection with both active lifestyles, nature and music. We can’t wait to share an amazing weekend with friends and families in south Lake District.”
