Wigton Rugby Club mean business this coming campaign – as they are back into pre-season training already.
Last night’s first session was attended by 35 senior players, with five others sending apologies due to work commitments.
A delighted coach David Warwick said: “This is the best turnout in over 30 years and reflects the progress we are making on and off the pitch.
“Despite the searing heat the players put in encouraging performances in the fitness testing, and some good skills were on show in the skill sessions and games.
“As well as returning players who have decided to take up rugby again we have a couple of new players who’ve signed for us this season.
“Tom Maughan is the son of ex-county player Martin and he has returned to the area from University. He is a young, powerful forward with lots of potential.
“Josh McKee has moved to the area and is keen to get involved after playing at Aberdeen University.”
Warwick was also keen to stress that the club is still looking to add to the group.
“Training resumes tomorrow night (Thursday) at Lowmoor Road from 6.30pm and anyone interested will be made more welcome to come along and join in,” he said.
