Carlisle United have confirmed that West Cumbrian Taylor Charters has signed a two-year deal with the Brunton Park club.
The new deal has been announced by the official Carlisle United website and the club looks forward to him adding to the 57 first team appearances he has already made.
Charters, 21, was the man who actually clinched promotion when he scored the decisive penalty at Wembley at the end of the League Two play-off final against Stockport County.
A product of the club’s academy, he earned himself his first pro contract – a two-year deal – just two months into the second year of his YTS scholarship in August 2019.
Having trained with the first team squad, and with a number of pre-season friendly appearances to his name, he settled quickly and notched up nine appearances during the 2019/20 season.
A triggered clause extended his stay until the summer of 2022.
A half-season loan spell with Gateshead saw him play his part in their National League North title-winning campaign, and he was rewarded with a further one-year deal with his parent club upon his return.
In addition to that dramatic penalty he has scored twice for United to date.
Charters comes from a sporting background. His grandfather Barry was a useful footballer with the Cockermouth amateur side Deer Orchard when it launched in the 1960s.
His father Ryan was a good amateur rugby league player with Ellenborough who later turned professional with Workington Town.
