Fundraiser launched for family who lost everything – including their dog – in West Cumbrian house fire

An online fundraiser has been launched after a West Cumbrian family lost everything thanks to a major fire that gutted their home.

Firefighters were called to Maryport’s Church Terrace at around midnight on Tuesday to the blaze at the Old Vicarage.

It is understood the family had four dogs – but while the others escaped, one of them, called George, died.

A friend of the family, Stephen McGee, set up the Gofundme page for them.

He said: “The house fire resulted in them losing everything, not only belongings but a loved dog.

“This doesn’t count for the amount of memories made in their home which have been burned away, the family are going to have to start from the beginning all over again. This fundraiser won’t heal the pain what they are feeling but at least allow them to have a small amount to start with again.”

Already, almost £2,000 has been raised. To donate, visit https://gofund.me/df1c1d7f

A man, 49, was arrested on suspicion of arson and an investigation has been launched by the fire service.
