Over £3,000 has been donated to an online fundraiser launched after a West Cumbrian family lost everything due to a major fire that gutted their home.
Firefighters were called to Maryport’s Church Terrace at around midnight on Tuesday to the blaze at the Old Vicarage.
It is understood the family had four dogs – but while the others escaped, one of them, called George, died.
A friend of the family, Stephen McGee, set up the Gofundme page for them.
He said he was overwhelmed by people’s response to the fundraiser and thanked everyone who had already donated.
He added: “The house fire resulted in them losing everything, not only belongings but a loved dog.
“This doesn’t count for the amount of memories made in their home which have been burned away, the family are going to have to start from the beginning all over again. This fundraiser won’t heal the pain what they are feeling but at least allow them to have a small amount to start with again.”
The total stands at £3,122. To donate, visit https://gofund.me/df1c1d7f
