Carlisle City have re-signed their former winger Rob McCartney after two years in the Scottish Division Two with Annan Athletic.
McCartney, 29, whose contract had expired over the border, had played in 24 matches last season for Annan, although only six were starts. He scored one goal, actually operating at centre-forward, in a League game at Forfar.
But McCartney built a formidable reputation as a goal-scorer with Carlisle City and is still the club’s leading scorer with 89 goals since they joined the football pyramid.
He’s had other spells away – with Workington and Gretna – but Carlisle City has always brought-out the best in McCartney’s finishing abilities.
City manager Jim Nichols said: “It’s great to have Rob back with us after gaining more experience in Scottish football and we look forward to him adding to his impressive goal tally with us,
“We have other signings to release over the next few days and I’m really happy with the squad we are building for next season in the Northern League First Division.
“Last season we had a good starting eleven but lacked depth to the squad and I think this time round we will be stronger all round.”
