Buildings across Cumbria are set to turn blue to celebrate the 75th birthday of the NHS.
From tomorrow, Wednesday July 5, Barrow Town Hall, The Forum in Barrow, Kendal Town Hall, Kendal Castle, and Penrith Town Hall will shine blue for five nights in recognition of the NHS’s incredible efforts to provide world-leading healthcare, free at the point of use, for the last three quarters of a century.
The NHS was formed in 1948 in the aftermath of the Second World War.
Patricia Bell, deputy leader of Westmorland and Furness Council and cabinet member for adults, health and care, said: “We are immensely grateful for the dedication and tireless efforts of our National Health Service for all they have done for our communities in their 75 years.
“Lighting up our buildings in blue serves as a small gesture to show our gratitude for the NHS on their momentous birthday.
“We thank NHS professionals for the invaluable work they carry our every day and express our heartfelt appreciation for their relentless commitment.”
