Kendal Town shared the spoils in their pre-season friendly at Parkside Road last night against Lancaster City.
Although City went in at half-time with the lead Kendal scored a 60th minute equaliser from one of their trialists who powered home a header from a corner.
New full-back Dan Gray, a former AFC Fylde and Clitheroe player was in the starting line-up for the Mintcakes who also began with three trialists in the side.
Lancaster were the more dangerous side in the first quarter of the game and twice struck the crossbar, once from 25 yards by Charlie Bailey and the other from the edge of the six yard box.
On another occasion a corner was whipped in dangerously but flew right across the box without anyone being able to get a tough – defender or attacker.
The deadlock was broken on 35 minutes when Lancaster won a corner and from close range Dom Lawson forced the ball home.
The Dolly Blues lead was almost doubled before half-time when cracking shot from Bailey hit the underside of the bar, down onto the line and then was cleared to safety.
Shaun Sailor had an effort for Kendal but it was straight at the keeper, debutant Andre Mendes while the trialist striker was put through one-on-one with Mendes but the keeper won the duel.
Former Workington full-back Matty Clarke joined the action in the second-half in a completely fresh Lancaster 11 which included four trialists.
One of them was a keeper and he produced a fantastic double save early in the half to deny both Sailor and Ryan Winder.
However on the hour there was nothing he could do to prevent the Kendal equaliser as the trialist centre-forward thumped home a header from a corner.
There were no further goals and honours were shared in what was Kendal’s second pre-season game after Saturday’s clash with AFC Blackpool had to be postponed.
Kendal have also just learnt that they will start the North West Counties Premier Division season with two home games. They will host AFC Liverpool on July 29 and then entertain Longridge Town on Tuesday, August 1.
The first away game will be on Tuesday, August 8 at Padiham as they wait for the FA Cup draw which will take care of their fixture for Saturday August 5.
In fact three of the first four League games will be at Parkside Road as they entertain Litherland REMYCA on Saturday, August 12.
