It was a busy night for Carlisle fire crews who attended a water rescue, property fire and car crash in the space of several hours.
Both Carlisle East and Carlisle West fire stations as well as Longtown appliances were first called out last night Wednesday July 12 to the River Eden to reports of someone in the water.
The person was was located and then helped to safety.
At around 4am, both fire stations were then called to a property fire in the Morton area, where they discovered a property’s garage was well alight.
The crews extinguished the fire using breathing apparatus and hosereels.
A spokesman for Carlisle East Fire Station said: “Fortunately the property had working smoke alarms which alerted the occupants to the fire, and they routinely close the internal doors at night- which you can see from the pictures, has stopped a serious fire from spreading to the rest of the house.”
The teams were then called out again at around 6.30am this morning alongside Penrith fire crews to a road traffic collision on the M6.
Whilst in attendance, the crews discovered a van had crashed with a HGV and that two people were trapped in the vehicle.
The crews freed the people using hydraulic cutting equipment.
