Barrow continued their winning run in pre-season friendlies when they beat AFC Fylde 2-0.
It was the fourth game for Pete Wild’s men and in some ways it was one of the toughest
Fylde had started more positively and looked the sharper side but the Bluebirds gradually started to create chances and went ahead with a superb strike from Ged Garner in the 58th minute.
Ten minutes later a trialist – one of four used by Wild – made the victory certain when he knocked in the second from close range.
Fylde had the first chance of the game after ten minutes when Gold Omotayo got on the end of a Luke Charman cross and should have scored but keeper Josh Lillis did really well to turn the ball onto the
Barrow had their first chance when Courtney Duffus curled in a great cross from the right but Emile Acquah headed over.
The Bliuebirds were unlucky not to take the lead on 27 minutes when Duffus’ header from an Elliot Newby corner was cleared off the line.
Both teams found it increasingly difficult to hold onto the ball in miserable weather conditions although they worked incredibly hard to get back possession.
Garne, who came on at the break, produced the highlight of the game when he chested down a ball on the edge of the area before volleying it straight into the top corner.
Barrow made another four changes on the hour mark and they doubled their lead in the 68th minute. A trialist curled a deep cross towards the far post where David Worrall hooked the ball to Garner, and he squared it into the path of another trialist who made no mistake from close in.
The final chance of the game on 81 minutes fell to Fylde. Nick Haughton’s corner was met by Siya Ligendza on the edge of the area but a sweetly struck volley was too high.
