A West Cumbrian charity has been awarded £45,000 to help young people and their families with their mental health.
Together We CIC is now able to continue to help youngsters aged 11-plus in a project aimed at those who had fallen through the gaps of traditional services.
The project – which helped around 500 families – will now be able to continue thanks to the funding from the Allerdale GDF Community Partnership.
The project aims to improve the mental health and wellbeing by providing one-to-one and group work for young people and families in the Allerdale area.
Many of these people have already had some support with statutory services and have been discharged, or are on long waiting lists for statutory services.
Some of have struggled to access statutory services because of location, transportation difficulties and social difficulties based on their needs and the needs of their family, like financial, educational and physical.
Together We CIC estimated the cash will help it work with another 131 families.
A spokesman added: “We also aim to address deprivation in terms of employment and so we are pleased to be able to continue our work with the funding and also create a new recovery college post employing a person with lived experience of mental health to deliver courses alongside North Cumbria recovery college.”
Mark Clamp, clinical lead and talk service manager of Together We CIC, said: “We are incredibly grateful to the Allerdale GDF Community Partnership for helping us to provide more young people and families with the opportunity to improve their mental health and their overall wellbeing.”
The Allerdale GDF Community Partnership provides access to £1 million of funding a year as discussions progress around whether a Geological Disposal Facility could be right for Allerdale.
The underground facility would store radioactive waste.
Partnership chair Mary Bradley said: “The fantastic team at Together We are helping empower people in our community to take control of their own physical and mental health. This service is incredibly important to so many local people and the community partnership are very proud to be able support their work through Community Investment Funding.”
