Egremont Crab Fair will return in September – with an extra day of entertainment.
It will be the first time in four years the fair will hit the streets of Egremont and organisers have added a Sunday session – Dancing in the Field – to the schedule.
The main fair takes place from Friday September 15 to Sunday September 17 and there will be sporting events in the week before the main fair.
Callum Scott, chair of the organising committee, said: “We’ve had lots of feedback in the past that the fair ends too quickly. So this year we decided to take that feedback on board and build on the success of events in the field.
“Our Dancing in the Field session on Sunday is the perfect antidote to the crab fair comedown and means people can enjoy the fair for one more day.
“We’ve managed to secure Fleur and the Flamingos from Manchester to give us a soulful mix of sultry pop. We can’t wait to hear them in our tent in our field!”
The Dancing in the Field event is in addition to festival favourites, Dancing in the Street which is a free music event on Egremont Main Street on Friday evening and the recent addition CrabFest, which brings the best local music talent to the Crab Fair field on Saturday evening.
Music across the weekend includes tribute acts to pop royalty, up and coming singers, amazing DJs, with something for everyone over the three days. A highlight will be Scottish bagpipe rock band Drums and Roses, playing at Dancing in the Street.
This year will also see the return of some forgotten favourites from Crab Fair’s past, recognising the 750-year history of the event, plus all the usual favourites including fun fairs, crafts and other traders, beer tent, sporting activities on the field, a Crab Fair Queen, scattering of the crab apples, a greasy pole and much more.
Callum added: “The Crab Fair really is one of the best events of the year and the organising committee is working hard to make sure that this year’s event is the very best it can be.
“We believe that with everything on offer, there is something for everyone. So come along, you won’t regret it!”
The Crab Fair committee thanked all of this year’s sponsors, partners and organisers.
