More than ever, all eyes will be on the sky from players and officials of the Cumbria Cricket League this Saturday.
After three successive washouts, when every scheduled game was abandoned and four points handed out to each side, the league needs a full programme.
Unfortunately showers are forecast for the whole county, with the worst downpours between 11am and 1pm.
It could be a situation where some games are ruined again while others are fortunate to produce a finish, albeit with reduced overs.
But, as we know all too well, the forecasts can be wrong and hopefully there will be a full day’s cricket for everyone.
Match of the day is unquestionably at Sandair’s Raymond Denham Oval where Cockermouth entertain Furness.
It’s fourth versus first and if Cockermouth are to retain an interest in this year’s championship they have to win this one as they currently trail Furness by 18 points.
Defeats against Whitehaven and Wigton have proved costly, and they also lost to top-four rivals Workington.
Furness have only been beaten once, and significantly that was the home game against Cockermouth, so they have something to prove at Sandair.
Champions Carlisle are second in the table, just two points adrift, and they travel to Cleator, who are second bottom.
Cleator know that they have to start winning, and doing it soon, as they are only five points above Haverigg in the battle to avoid the drop.
So it’s a key game for both teams but on current form Carlisle will start strong favourites.
Early table leaders Workington are now nine points off the summit and face what is traditionally their fiercest fought contest – a short trip to Whitehaven.
The Playground side are enjoying a much more favourable season, just outside the top six and some 16 points better-off than Haverigg at the foot of the table.
In recent years, since promotion, it’s been a battle to stay in the top flight but this season has seen significant progress.
Workington made a superb start to the season, and in overseas amateur Davis Mills have unearthed a gem. Virtually all the rest came through the youth system at the club and their togetherness could be a crucial factor in the closing seven weeks of the season.
Egremont are only two points behind their Copeland neighbours and also enjoying a less stressful campaign.
They were involved in a thriller at Keswick earlier in the season which ended in a tie and on Saturday they host the return.
Keswick, who have recovered well after a poor start to the campaign, are two places and seven points better off than their hosts.
Big game at the wrong end of the table is the clash at Lowmoor Road between Wigton and Haverigg.
Wigton made a wretched start but have started to pull clear and going into the game have a 13-points advantage over bottom side Haverigg.
In the other game Lindal Moor, third-bottom with eight more points than Haverigg, visit Millom who are fifth top.
