Saturday saw the climax of the Trilogy Trails which replaced the popular former Cock How Festival Trails.

It was all to run for as the outcome of the trails would determine who got the lion’s share of the prize money on offer across the six races as points were accumulated across the three trails.

First up were the senior hounds with a field of 14 hounds and as they showed there were two of them with a slight lead.

In the end it was Jonty and Evie Moore’s and Jack Thompson’s Ned’s Gain who just got up by a couple of yards to take the win from Ian Bell’s Howgil Lil in second place.

Ian Donald’s Huntsman’s Quartz finished in third place followed by Ryan and Tom Bell’s Ron.

Miterdale Duchess, who finished in fifth place for Denis Pear and Jackie Gill, had won the first two senior trails and managed to hold onto first prize for the seniors and took home the major part of the £400 on offer.

Next up were the senior maidens and it was Isla Hetherington and Stephen Riley’s Ruby who came home first in a field of 17.

She was followed by Foxparke Whoosh in second place for the Napier kennel and that was enough to give her the overall win for the maidens just two points in front of Ruby, who came second in the competition.

There were 14 hounds slipped in the Open Puppy race and as they came back onto the finish it was James McClelland’s Glamorous Ava who went on to win from Embrace who finished in second place.

Glamorous Ava was repeating her success on Thursday and seems to be coming back into good form.

Thorn Gift, who had headed up the points overall didn’t ticket but still managed to hold on with the two wins previously acquired. The win for Glamorous Ava took her to second place in the points competition.

The Puppy Maiden race saw a bigger field of runners with 19 hounds involved and it was Sportsman who showed on the finish before coming home nicely to win for Willie and Daphne Mark.

He was followed home by Caroline Graham and Stephen Irving’s Hunter’s Zodiac and then Carol and Stanley Jackson’s Croft Lass.

The win for Sportsman was enough to take him to joint first with Foxparke Brum Brum in the final Trilogy points table.

The Open Restricted race was next and had a good field of 21 hounds with Malia and Maverick showing on the finish.

In the end it was Christine Brownlee’s Malia who pulled away to win the race from Joseph Abraham and Sadie Wilson’s Maverick.

That win for Malia moved her up to second place in the points competition but it was Apache Raider for Debbie and Lana McGee who took the bulk of the £300 following his earlier two wins.

Last but not least was the veteran race and it was local hound Crazy who came home first for Jonty and Evie Moore and Jack Thompson to give them a double win on the day. It also moved Crazy up to joint second in the Trilogy Points.

Forlorn Spring was second which was enough to keep him at the top of the points and take home first place in the points competition for the veterans.

Afterwards a spokesman for the festival committee said: “A lot of people worked really hard to put on the three meetings. Thank you to everyone who helped on all three days, trailers, catchers, scouts, judge, starter, timekeeper, leave getter, farmers, entries, entertainment manager/points compiler.”
