Workington Comets number one Connor Bailey helped Redcar Bears pull off a 46-44 win at Birmingham to further consolidate their position in the Cab Direct Championship play-off places.
Bailey, riding in the second heat leader berth, had a third, a last and a second before his last race in heat 12 when he raced away to win, followed in by reserve Jason Edwards for a vital 5-1.
Youngster Edwards was the hero for the Bears with a score of 11+2 and he was involved in two vital 5-1s, securing the maximum in heat 14 as well.
The Brummies hit back with 5-1s of their own in Heats 13 and 15 through skipper Justin Sedgmen (14) and guest Josh Pickering (11+2) but they fell just short with defeat another blow to their top six hopes.
Charles Wright, the ex-Comets rider who is the Bears’ number one, scored nine and a bonus with two race wins in his five outings.
Unfortunately Comets youngster Luke Harrison was unable to score in three races, being excluded in the first for bringing down Paul Starke.
