A new community beat officer will be patrolling the streets of Cockermouth.
Shona Pattinson starts her role today, Thursday August 10, and aims to build relationships within the community.
PC Pattinson will be out over the next few weeks visiting local businesses, community groups and chatting to residents.
Anti-social behaviour is a priority for the area and PC Pattinson will be working to address the issues identified, Cumbria police said.
Inspector Pete Aiston, of Allerdale Neighbourhood policing team, said: “We are aware of issues in Cockermouth and concerns from residents around a policing presence in the area.
“PC Pattinson will be dedicated to Cockermouth, providing a visible presence and to engage with the community by speaking with residents, business owners and visitors.
“She will be looking to understand the issues working with the community and partners to prevent and detect crime and tackle anti-social behaviour.”
PC Pattinson said: “I’m looking forward to getting out into Cockermouth and meeting residents and local businesses over the next few weeks.
“It’s important that you continue to report any concerns to us so that we can investigate and address the issues being faced with our partners.
“If you have any concerns please come and chat to me if you see me out in the community and over the next couple of weeks as I hold police desks in the area which will be advertised on our Facebook and Twitter accounts.”
