History was made at the weekend with the first games in the newly formed West Cumberland Sunday League.
Members of the Workington and Egremont Sunday Leagues have merged and seven games launched the new set-up.
Nineteen clubs have been split into a nine-strong Premier Division with 10 in the First Division.
Premier Division members Thornhill have been extra time to prepare for the new campaign through a lack of players. Which caused their opener at Northside to be postponed.
One of the scheduled First Division games is to be re-arranged as one of the clubs involved requested a free week-end.
In the three games that went ahead in the Premier Division they produced 21 goals.
Top scorers were Blue Bell who won 7-0 against Moresby Rangers with goals from Carl Denver (4), Aiden Smith (2) and Luke Knowles.
Parkside weren’t far behind with a 6-2 win over Deer Orchard. Ben McCarron (2), Josh Charlton, Adam Smith, Owen Charlton and Ryan Maguire found the Orchard net.
Mike Graham scored both goals for the Cockermouth visitors.
The other game saw the points shared as Egremont Cosmos fought back from 3-1 down to earn a point against Dearham.
Jack Brown, Aaron Lister and Matthew Oglanby had put Dearham ahead but Cosmos earned their point with goals from Lewis Park (2) and Liam O’Pray.
The four Division One game produced 20 goals with FC Butcher’s leading the way as they beat King’s Arms 8-1.
Josh Patterson (2), David Mulgrew, Jack Anderson, Lewis Mattinson, Joe Porter, Cameron Harker and Jack Kemp were on target for the Butcher’s. Dawson Webster scored King’s Arms lone reply.
Niall Melton scored twice for Salterbeck in their 3-0 win over Seaton Rangers, and they were also helped by an own goal.
In a tight contest Flimby Social got the better of Royal Oak with goals from Peter Thompson and Brandon Birks. Both goals came in the first half and after the break Flimby were largely in charge without being able to add to their tally.
There was a lively contest between Swan and The Sun before a Shaun Patterson hat-trick and a fourth from Jack Pears won it 4-2 for Swan. Rhys Broatch and Jay Wilson replied for the Sun.
