Workington RNLI was called out to help a fishing boat with engine problems.
The volunteer crew was called at around 12.30pm today, Wednesday August 16, by Belfast Coastguard after the 27ft boat, with two people on board, reported mechanical issues with their vessel.
Workington RNLI launched the all-weather lifeboat Dorothy May White and towed the boat back to Workington.
The crew returned to the boathouse at 1.15pm.
Just two hours later, Workington RNLI’s inshore rescue boat was called out after a 16ft fishing boat got into difficulty just outside the entrance to Workington harbour.
The boat’s engine had failed and the two people aboard had managed to get a rope on a nearby dredger at anchor. However, the falling tide meant the fishing boat could not be put anywhere safely.
The volunteer crew of the John F Mortimer launched at 3.15pm and towed the stricken fishing boat into Workington harbour.
