Once again the West Cumbrian pigeons won’t be racing on the traditional Saturday this weekend.
The West Cumbria Amalgamation are due to go back to Appleton and officials have decided that the best chance for a race is on Sunday.
Consequently the birds will be marked on Saturday before being transported to the race-point which is just under 100 miles.
Last week the birds were liberated on the Friday from Appleton and it proved a very good race. Appleton – sometimes referred to as Lymm – has proved to be the area’s best race-point over the years.
But this season, in five races so far, there have been two Friday races, two on a Monday and only one on a Saturday.
This week’s switch to Sunday has been made because it looks to be the better day with more chance of a liberation.
