A West Cumbrian rugby club is set to host a fundraising day for the stroke unit at Carlisle’s Cumberland Infirmary.
Organised by Matty Moore, the event at Maryport Rugby Club on Saturday, August 26, will include a masters rugby league match featuring a charity team going head-to-head with Maryport Masters, raffle, a sports auction and evening entertainment.
Matty and his family have organised the day after his dad Geoff suffered a stroke in June.
Matty said: “Dad suffered from a stroke unexpectedly. You read about it and you see it on TV but nothing can prepare you for the reality of it.
“Thanks to the fast response and amazing care of the stroke unit at the Cumberland Infirmary, my dad has come away with his life. We have organised this event in order to say thank you and to try and make a difference for other families.”
Geoff, 67, of Maryport, was a fireman in West Cumbria, working in Whitehaven and Workington.
Evening entertainment, from 6.30pm, includes Carlisle band the Jackdaws.
Matty added: “There will be a sports auction with some amazing signed memorabilia on offer. This is £3 a ticket to attend.
“We also have a raffle ongoing with the top prize being a Sealy mattress among many other amazing prizes. Local businesses have been beyond generous.
“We aim to raise as much as possible for this absolutely fantastic cause.”
Tickets are available from Maryport Rugby League Club or by messaging 07722199735.
The match sponsors are GT Tyres and JG Parry transport.
