Carlisle are firmly in the box seat for the final run-in to the 2023 Cumbria League season.
A thrilling victory at Furness on Saturday gave them an eight-point lead over their south Cumbrian rivals with four games to go.
On paper their toughest fixture is at home to third-placed Workington who trail the leaders by 20 points but have not given up on snatching the title.
Carlisle host Whitehaven on Saturday while the other teams in the top four have matches against the sides in the bottom three battling against relegation.
Whitehaven famously beat Carlisle in an epic contest at the Playground a couple of years ago when Chase Young cut loose, but Michael Slack’s side have been in consistent form and confident of taking a step nearer retaining their title.
Furness make the short trip to Lindal Moor, desperate to retain their Premier Division status after promotion last year.
Haverigg currently prop up the table but only four points behind Lindal and have a home game against Workington who must win to keep their outside title hopes alive.
As always, at this time of the year, a lot will depend on the strengths of the sides the clubs can put out on the day.
Same applies at Cleator who have five points in hand of Lindal and nine ahead of Haverigg. They host fourth-placed Cockermouth who despite doing the double over Furness and winning at Carlisle, have failed in their title quest mainly because of defeats to Whitehaven and Wigton.
The other games scheduled are Egremont v Millom and Keswick v Wigton.
