The West Cumbria Amalgamation will race from Cannock tomorrow as they have a good chance of a liberation.
Once again the traditional Saturday was ruled-out because of the forecast and the decision was taken to mark the birds tonight for a Monday liberation.
It will mean that only one of the first seven young bird races has been raced on a Saturday – with three Mondays, two Fridays and a Sunday so far.
However some Cumbrian fanciers did race yesterday, and with good returns.
The Furness Federation were at Wollaston (126 miles) and liberated at 9am in a west south west wind.
The Askam partnership of Bradley and Jefferson had a great result, taking the first nine tickets in the Federation with the winner clocked after two hours 39 minutes, covering the distance at just under 48mph.
The Copeland North West were also at Wollaston, flying with the Red Rose Fed and again returns were very good.
Club chairman Graham Best won with a chequer hen while veteran fancier Billy Cottier continued his terrific run of form by taking 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th.
Graham said: “The sire is a cock that goes back 20 years to a mealy hen I bought from Ron Hillcoat of Bertie Camphius bloodlines.
“The dam is direct from Premier Stud – Bart, Luc and Jurgen Geerinckx pigeons. I bought it in an auction when I was on the drink in Benidorm which is a dangerous thing to do but she and five others have fred loads of good pigeons.
“I was really pleased with them yesterday because it was a hard finish with the wind against them.”
