Kendal Town earned a home tie with Newcastle University in the second qualifying round of the FA Vase with a 6-1 home win over Route One Rovers.
Hot shot James Bailey grabbed another hat-trick for the Mintcakes while Steve Yawson was also able to celebrate a treble.
It set up Kendal nicely for another home game this afternoon when they entertained Burscough in the NPL Premier Division.
Kendal go into the game with a four point lead at the top while Burscough are down in 17th with two wins and three defeats, although they have played two less games than the south Cumbrians.
Although there were hat-tricks for Bailey and Yawson in the FA Vase tie, it was new goalkeeper Chris Cheetham who earned the sponsors’ man of the match award.
Cheetham made two penalty saves and also produced a couple of fine stops during the game.
The Yawson hat-trick, and a goal from Bailey had given Kendal a 4-0 advantage before the visitors pulled one back just before the break.
Bailey scored two more in the second-half, when Cheetham also produced his penalty heroics while the visitors had a man sent off.
Route One Rovers were formed only ten years ago in Bradford, joining the West Riding County Amateur League in 2015, before being accepted into the Yorkshire Amateur League.
In 2022, they won the Bradford District Cup and after winning the Yorkshire Amateur League, the club was admitted into the North West Counties League Division One North this season where they currently stand third in the table.
