After a successful end to their inaugural season in Division 1 (North England and Scotland), the Carlisle-based American Flag Football team border City Centurions have accomplished the upset of the year by securing a place at National Final’s Day in Manchester next weekend.
The first-timers capped their regular season campaign by scalping overall Division 1 North league leaders Warrington.
With a finishing tally of 12 wins and five losses for the summer, the Centurions launched themselves forward into the knockout rounds of the British American Football Association’s NFFL 2023 league.
The next stop is Manchester to face high-flying South coasters Chichester before potential opposition from the likes of Swansea, Leeds, London, Glasgow or Manchester who have also all qualified.
The Border City Centurions have squads for both adult and junior players.
The club is growing rapidly and the member bases has already has over 100 supporters and players recruited from across Cumbria and South Scotland.
Forming in 2022, the Centurions affiliated to the British American Football Association in 2023 to play in the UK National Flag Football League’s Division 1.
Flag is a rapidly growing, high-skill based format of non-contact American football.
Embraced by both the NFL and now the International Olympic Committee who have cleared it for immediate inclusion for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, Flag has been taking the sports world by storm over the past decade.
The mercurial growth of the game is chiefly a result of the world seeking alternative pathways for the future of contact sports, due to increasing awareness of the links between the impacts of repetitive concussions and the long-term head traumas in traditional sport formats.
Consequently, today flag is one of the fastest growing sports in both Europe and the Americas.
The club is open to all – both men and women, boys and girls.
