The sunshine welcomed everyone to Ennerdale Show yesterday and it included a four-card hound trailing meeting as well as all the delights of the traditional show.

The trails were sponsored by McDonald Fencing and owner David was there to present the winners with the trophies.

First into action were the seniors with a field of 16 hounds, and Cautious was one of the leading fancies as they set off.

As they came back onto the finish it was a good race between Cautious and Foxparke Beep Beep.

Then along the well-trodden path it was difficult for Foxparke Beep Beep to get past but she pushed on and finished really well to beat Cautious home and cross the line first.

‘Bubbles’ really seems to like getting her photo taken and did her usual pose with Grace at the end, after all she did win the most photogenic hound prize last year as a pup.

Cautious for Stephen Riley and ace young trainer Isla Hetherington, just couldn’t hold on but ran a cracking race to finish in second.

Lady Million also ran a good race to finish in third place for Brian and Joy Lister.

The open pups were next with a field of 15 runners. Silver Dream set off as favourite in the bookies ring but as they came back on to the finish there were a good few dogs in with a chance of winning

It was Maverick for Joseph Abram and Sadie Wilson who got his head in front and got first onto the trod which made it difficult for the other dogs following to get past.

He came on to win the race with Hey Mac for Neil and Gillian Brown running a great race to finish in second place just a yard or so behind with Embrace for Laura Steele, Andrew and Joel Bulman and Ian Rumney finishing third place.

Nicola McMaster with Maverick being presented with the £100 cheque by member of the late Sandy Bushby.

Croft Lass was finishing fast and took fourth place for Carol and Stanley Jackson with fifth place going to team Foxparke with Honk Honk, The favourite Silver Dream only managed sixth place.

The win for Maverick was his first win in the open pups having done most of his running in the open restricted races. Nicola McMaster was presented with the additional prize of £100 in memory of Sandy Bushby.

The open maiden race had another 15 hounds taking place and there was a strong contingent from the Foxparke kennel as they sought a double at the show.

As they came onto the finish there was a mass of hounds all in with a chance of winning and crossing the line there were five hounds within a yard or so but it was Foxparke Mysteriously who just got up to win from kennel mate Foxparke Whoosh followed home by Tania Satterthwaite’s Samcro.

The Foxparke team were well chuffed with the outcome and they also bagged the fifth place with Foxparke Rumour.

The last race of the day was for the open restricted grade with a good field of 19 runners.

David Clifford and Eden Rayna being presented with his trophy by David from McDonald Fencing

Colin Satterthwaite’s hound Thorn Pop was sent off favourite in what proved to be another good race. As they came onto the finish it was David Clifford’s Eden Rayna who held on to take the win with Clementine for Carol and Stanley Jackson hard on her heals followed by Thorn Rose.

The favourite Thorn Pop could only manage fifth place. The Foxparke Team managed to bag another ticket with Foxparke Lady Ava taking their tally for the day to six with two of those being first places. So it was a glorious day for Robyn, Ellie and Gracie.

Action moves to Sewing Shield tonight with a three-card meeting, hound slipping at 5.30pm.

Then looking forward to the weekend it will be another busy time with plenty of choice to run hounds with the Benty Show taking place on the Saturday along with Lowick Show and then on Sunday it will be Loweswater Show so plenty of prize money, rosettes and trophies to be won.
