A Barrow community centre under threat of closure has been given an £1,000 boost.
The Schneider Road Community Hub has launched an urgent appeal for funding to prevent it from closing its doors.
Furness Building Society has donated £1,000 to the centre, which holds toddler groups, children’s clubs and regular social activities for older people to help reduce isolation and improve wellbeing.
Over 100 people a week use the hub for activities and previously relied on different funding streams like the National Lottery to operate, but now urgently requires a consistent income to ensure its long-term future.
Anthony Kearney, marketing implementation manager at Furness Building Society, said: “The hub provides an invaluable service for our community, and we’re proud to help the organisation continue its important work.
“Furness Building Society has a long history of supporting local charities and clubs, as we believe it’s important to give back to the communities that we serve. This donation is just one way that we’re doing that.”
Tracy Matthews, who runs the hub, added: “This donation is a huge help for us. Every penny raised is greatly appreciated as it enables us to continue providing essential services to the people who need them most. We’re urgently appealing to the local community for support during these difficult times and have set up a JustGiving to help keep the hub open.”
The hub’s JustGiving page was set up in July 2023 and has raised £770 of its £2,000 target.
