Parkside back on top thanks to decisive home win

Parkside went back to the top of the West Cumberland Sunday League’s Premier Division with an emphatic 11-0 home win over Blue Bell.

But the Workington side only turned up with nine men and were 3-0 down when a tenth player arrived late.

They battled on, creating a couple of chances without accepting them, and were then reduced to nine again when the late arrival was sent-off – not his day!

Man of the match Glen Meagan scored four of the goals while Jay Weatherill (3), Tom Mahone, Kieran Maguire, Ellison Holgate and Marcus Atkinson were also on target.

That win put Parkside back on top because previous leaders Northside had their game with Lowca Pirates postponed. Apparently the appointed referee did not turn up.

Deer Orchard’s travails continue as they lost again, this time beaten 6-0 at home by FC Cosmos and are still looking for their first point.

Dylan Elsworth, Ben Graham, Lewis Park, Owen Woods, Alan Cardy and an own goal made-up the Cosmos tally.

Dearham Commercial were too strong for Thornhill, who are still coming to grips with a new competitive League, and it finished 11-0 to the former Workington League side.

Danny Dryden (4), Attlee Skillen (2), Ky Frazer (2), Max Cummings, Callum Casson and Lewis Manchester scored the Dearham goals.

In Division One Salterbeck still lead but Senhouse Street, Sun Inn and Butchers all closed after good victories.

IN fact Salterbeck could only draw 1-1 at home to Swan with both goals coming in the first-half. Keegan Holliday netted for the hosts with Jack Todd on the mark for the Swan.

Senhouse Street Club (7-1), Butchers (6-0) and Sun Inn (5-0) all showed their credentials in closing up in what looks as if it’s going to be a thrilling race for the title.

Senhouse Street were too strong for The Sun and their seven goals came from Kieran Kellett, Paul Brown, Adam Bragg, Zack Starkie, Kieran Messenger, Josh Holt and one of their opponents.

The Sun’s reply came from an own goal.

Butcher’s knocked in six without reply at home to Seaton Rangers and on the score-sheet were Josh Patterson (3), Lewis Mattinson, Tyler Ivison and Tom Bethwaite.

Sun Inn hit five against Royal Oak and on target were Mally Graham (2-1 pen), Lewis Penn, Jackson Slack and Jude Wilkinson.

Fixtures for Thursday

  • Premier Division – Northside v Thornhill; Parkside v Lowca Pirates.
  • First Division – Sun Inn v Senhouse Street; Swan v Butchers; Royal Oak v King’s Arms.
