The final fixture at Lowick took place last night and although it was a small turnout, it fully demonstrated the spectacle of hound trailing on what was a very warm night.

The meeting concluded a very busy few days over the start of September for the HTA.

The senior hounds started proceedings with a small field of four hounds and it was a repeat for Denise Bland with Huntsman’s Rebel as she came home first.

That victory takes her to third in the championship table and only five points behind the second hound Miterdale Duchess who was not running as she was taking a well earned rest.

Over recent weeks she had developed an issue with one of her toes which may have resulted in her not quite been on top form for every race.

In saying that she has been one of the most consistent hounds running in the senior trails with 42 tickets to her name which is some achievement and just shows what a strong little bitch she is.

Sophie Steele’s hounds did well and they finished second and third behind Denise’s hound, with Glenis and Raymond Farren’s Jenny’s Oracle coming in fourth.

Next to run were the open pups with a slip of six hounds. Bill Mellon’s Artist was back to see if he could round off the three Lowick trails with another win. He and the family were not to be disappointed as the little hound romped home in first place to take her eighth win of the season.

She really seems to be in good order at the moment and Bill and Pat Mellon and Robert and Tina Airey were well chuffed with her performance.

Artist is another one that is out of the same litter as table topper Rodney Raider, bred out of Silver Dusk by Miterdale Cooper and seems to be coming good as the season progresses.

The last race of the night was for the open restricted and again just had four runners.

As they came back onto the finish it was the Green boys – Jake and Zac’s Green Flyer who crossed the line in first place after finishing strongly.

The lads were not at the trails last night as they were away but Sophie Steele was looking after him on their behalf. But the family were over the moon when they found out that he had won.

Fairly recent newcomers to the sport the family have done really well with the dogs and have stuck in as its not an easy sport to get going in, so well done to them all.

Action now moves to Cold Fell on Wednesday for the last trail there this season.

The first trail slips at 5pm with a three trail meet plus an All In trail which any class of hound can run in and was designed to allow any hound that wasn’t quite race fit to have a run and bring them back to fitness.

On field catering and bookies also available. For more details regarding hound trailing, visit the web page houndtrailingassociation.com.
